1592 The "Sendan-Rin" School for Buddhist monks is founded in the precincts of Kichijoji Temple in Surugadai.
1882 The Sendan-Rin School is moved to Azabu and reorganized in the form of a modern university administered by the Soto School of Buddhism. 1882 is officially designated as the foundation year of Komazawa University.
1905 The Sendan-Rin School is renamed Soto-shu University.
1925 Soto-shu University is renamed Komazawa University.
1949 Komazawa University opens the Faculties of Buddhism, Letters, Commerce, and Economics.
1950 Komazawa Junior College is established. The College has a Department of Buddhism and an Evening Degree Program.
1952 Komazawa University establishes the Faculty of Commerce and Economics and the Evening Degree Program. In the same year the university establishes the Graduate Division of Arts and Sciences. The graduate division offers Master's Degree Programs in Buddhism, Japanese Literature, and Sociology.
1957 The Graduate Division of Arts and Sciences inaugurates its Doctoral Degree Program in Buddhism.
1962 Celebration of the eightieth anniversary of Komazawa University. The Komazawa Junior College establishes the Department of Japanese Literature and the Department of English Language and Literature.
1964 Komazawa University opens its Faculty of Law. The university opens its Komazawa University Hokkaido College of General Education in Iwamizawa.
1965 The Faculty of Commerce and Economics is renamed the Faculty of Economics.
1966 The Graduate Division of Commerce opens, offering a Master's Degree Program in Commerce. The Graduate Division of Arts and Sciences is opened; it offers a Master's Degree Program and a Doctoral Degree Program in Geography and in Japanese History. The Graduate Division also offers a Master's Degree Program in English Literature.
1967 The Department of Radiology is established in Komazawa Junior College. The Graduate Division of Economics offers a Master's Degree Program in Economics. The Graduate Division of Arts and Sciences inaugurates a Doctoral Degree Program in Japanese Literature. The Graduate Division of Commerce initiates a Doctoral Degree Program in Commerce.
1968 The Graduate Division of Law starts the Master's Degree and Doctoral Degree Programs in both Public Law and Private Law. The Graduate Division of Arts and Sciences commences a Master's Degree Program in Psychology.
1969 The Faculty of Business Administration is established. The Graduate Division of Economics starts a Doctoral Degree Program in Economics.
1970 The Graduate Division of Arts and Sciences commences a Doctoral Degree Program in Psychology.
1971 The Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Business Administration introduce their Evening Degree Programs. The Graduate Division of Arts and Sciences opens a Doctoral Degree Program in English Literature.
1972 Celebration of the ninetieth anniversary of Komazawa University. The Faculty of Law establishes the Department of Political Science. The Faculty of Commerce and Economics, Evening Degree Program, is renamed The Faculty of Economics, Evening Degree Program.
1973 Komazawa Junior College opens a three-year Degree Program in the Department of Radiology. The Graduate Division of Business Administration introduces the Master's Degree Program in Business Administration.
1977 The Graduate Division of Arts and Sciences opens a Doctoral Degree Program in Sociology. The Graduate Division of Business Administration starts a Doctoral Degree Program in Business Administration.
1982 Celebration of the centennial anniversary of Komazawa University.
1996 The Department of Radiology, Komazawa Junior College, inaugurates its Advanced Degree Program.
1998 The Department of Psychology is established in the Faculty of Letters. Tomakomai Komazawa University is established with a Faculty of International Culture.
Closure of Komazawa University Hokkaido College of General Education in Iwamizawa.
2000 A mainly daytime (Flex A) and a mainly evening (Flex B) program start in the Department of Economics and the Department of Law.
2002 Celebration of the one hundred and twentieth anniversary of Komazawa University.

The Department of International Communication is established in Tomakomai Komazawa University.
2003 Komazawa University establishes the Department of Radiological Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences.
2004 The Graduate Division of Legal Research and Training (Law School) is opened.
2006 The Faculty of Global Media Studies and The Faculty of Arts and Sciences are established in April.
2007 The Department of Contemporary Applied Economics is established in the Faculty of Economics.
